About Zephyr
 | | At Zephyr, we view our affiliation with landowners as long-term relationships. In the relationship, we provide experience, focus, financial strength, long-term involvement, and education. We consider our responsibilities to landowners and host communities to be our highest priorities. We take proactive steps to guarantee landowner and community satisfaction by involving landowners and the community in the development process. We emphasize education and involvement, exhaustive land and environmental research, and a close affiliation connection with locally-owned businesses and suppliers. Through all aspects of this process, Zephyr seeks to become a trusted team member in the collaborative effort to bring wind energy development to the communities in which we work.

Experience
Through multiple investments and relationships, the principals at Zephyr have interests in approximately 1,300 MW of projects that are presently operating or under construction across the U.S. Additionally, we have a pipeline of projects under development that will be capable of producing over 12,000 megawatts. Our knowledge and ties to the wind industry run deep as we have worked with many other developers, construction companies, and utilities. The people at Zephyr bring knowledge and experience culled since the emergence of commercial wind power in the U.S. Our work encompasses all aspects of development from affecting public and regulatory policy to working with local communities and land owners. Although we work and operate in many wind markets in the U.S., Zephyr specifically focuses on wind energy development within the Southwest Power Pool footprint, which includes Oklahoma, Kansas, and the Texas Panhandle.
Focus
Our focus within Kansas, Oklahoma and the Texas panhandle has led to a portfolio of 3,000 megawatts worth of wind projects under development sited in strategic locations of current or planned transmission capacity. We have spent the last several years focusing on this market and building relationships with state and local governments, regulatory bodies and utilities, local communities, and individual landowners.
We stress the value of local communities in the development process. Our development model is based upon using as many local resources as possible to bring a wind farm to a community. Our theory of development is that the support of the local community is essential to bring a project into operation. Local resources are the best resources, and we look locally first for much of our early stage development and construction work to ensure, to the extent possible, that there is maximum economic benefit to the local economy. Working locally also helps us to understand the local ecology and issues that matter to landowners to ensure that we take the necessary precautions during development to minimize our impact and interference with existing uses of the property.
Financial Strength
Zephyr is privately-owned and managed, which means that we are not driven by the stock market or other outside influences. Our investors are a group of private individuals, endowments and trusts that are dedicated to sustainable development of clean energy resources and have committed more than $1 billion to invest in natural gas and renewable energy. Financial strength combined with flexible ownership structures allows us the option to fully develop projects with our own resources or the possibility of strategically teaming up with other companies or utilities in order to get projects operating as quickly as possible. Additionally, our capital allows us to look to long-term steady growth and weather short-term ups and downs in the wind market and overall economy.
|
Long-Term Involvement
Unlike many development companies that are focused on short term gains or selling their interests to other developers, Zephyr takes the long-term position and will be involved for the life of the project. Having a long-term interest in our projects insures that our development decisions put us in lock step with our landowners. Many of our landowners take great comfort in knowing that the partnerships and relationships formed today will continue throughout the project's lifespan. Our long-term involvement means that we will use all of our knowledge and resources to make sure the project provides maximum economic benefit to our landowners.

Education
Wind energy on a commercial scale is a fairly recent occurrence. The general public only has limited knowledge about commercial wind development and there are, unfortunately, few resources by which to learn about wind. Furthermore, wind leases or easements are lengthy documents to negotiate. We believe education is the best tool to empower landowners to make decisions, so we try to educate our landowners on all aspects of wind, including: site selection, wind resource measurement, general project design, environmental considerations, general economics, and market drivers. We will also take the time to explain the contract so that each landowner is informed about his/her commitment. Many of our landowners have owned land in the area for several generations and desire to preserve the land in the family for several more generations. We respect that this is a new venture for many and are sensitive to each family's need to move at their own pace. We also understand that each landowner's situation is unique, and we will tailor our approach to best suit your needs and concerns and try to provide you with many of the resources at our disposal in order to assist you.
