Benefits of Wind Energy

Benefits to the Landowner:

When large numbers of wind turbines are installed on farmland, only about 2% of the land is required for the wind turbines. The remaining 98% of the land is at the landowner's disposal for farming, livestock, or other uses. Another benefit is additional income stream to land owners in rural communities through payment options and the payment for use of their land, as well as an increase in the value of the land.

Benefits to the Community:

The community within which a wind farm is placed also receives a significant boost. Whenever possible Zephyr will encourage local employment opportunities and purchases of materials, and as a result the local economy is enhanced by the addition of a wind farm when construction expenditures and jobs add dollars to the local and regional businesses.

Benefits to the Environment:

Wind energy is unique in that it is able to generate energy using a totally natural yet infinitely renewable resource. Converting wind into energy does not require the consumption of water, nor does it release greenhouse gases or other significant waste streams, unlike nuclear, coal, and natural gas fired power plants. Allowing the presence of wind turbines on one's property is also a very direct way that an individual can contribute to the protection and preservation of our environment, as each megawatt-hour of electricity that is generated by wind energy helps to reduce nearly 1 ton of greenhouse gas emissions that would have been produced by burning coal to provide the same amount of electricity.
