Environmental Considerations
 | | Zephyr understands and appreciates that protecting the environment is an important aspect in the development of a wind farm. When wind farms are properly placed and maintained, the integrity of the land can be maintained and energy production and wildlife can coexist peacefully. Keep in mind that a large utility-scale wind farm can span thousands of acres of land, but generally will only require 2% of the property for the actual placement of turbines and other facilities, leaving the remaining 98% available for farming, ranching, and other uses.
A common environmental concern is the disruption of avian migration routes and bird death. Today, wind farms are purposefully not placed in areas where the migration patterns would be impacted, and updated technology and design of the wind turbines themselves has drastically reduced the risk to birds through tower designs that do not allow birds to perch or nest on the turbines.
|
Another potential cause of community concern are questions surrounding the amount of noise produced by the wind turbines. The updated technology of the wind turbine blades and generators does not produce significant noise pollution, the majority of the noise being a whooshing noise from the blades moving through the air, which is only audible if standing in relatively close proximity to the turbine itself.
There are, of course, some special scenic areas of land where the addition of wind turbines would be inappropriate and Zephyr works exhaustively with the local communities to ensure that the land's integrity is upheld.
